— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
I know The Shining, Insidious, American Horror Story, Ash VS Evil Dead and Saw will all open early this year. I’ll tweet exact times later.
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
Eight mazes, early entry every day, and a list of possible mazes that will open early. NICE!
@HorrorNights Tweet Round-Up
We have to thank John Murdy for keeping us all up-to-date despite also being the guy at the center of the action. What’s more we thank you Mr. Murdy, for helping us write this column! Here we go over the odds and ends since the last HHN Tracker. THis includes the new commercial for HHN by director Eli Roth, updates on Scare Academy, and an homage to the legendary horror director, Tobe Hooper.
.@EliRoth makes his commercial debut on a new short film (we mean TV commercial) for #Halloween’s best event. https://t.co/W1WBTaFd3d
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 24, 2017
Tonight is Scare Academy, the 1st time I get to address our Scareactors. There’s so many of them now have to do it over 2 nights!
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 25, 2017
And of course there’s all the publicity. Leading behind the scenes media tours for most of the day today…then working on lighting at night
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 25, 2017
“By the pricking of my thumbs…something wicked MONDAY comes….” I know. I know. Its driving you crazy. Jack Torrance crazy? Hope not. : )
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 26, 2017
Scare Academy was held at Animal Actors stage last night. I kept waiting for a bird to fly over the crowd & take a dollar bill from my hand!
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 26, 2017
Wrapped up the 2nd half of Scare Academy tonight. Can’t wait to work with the cast for HHN 2017!
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 27, 2017
RIP Tobe Hooper. The best tribute I can give you is the fact that this year will be the 5th time we’ve had Texas Chainsaw Massacre at HHN. pic.twitter.com/NNLgXkZSZZ
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 27, 2017
Something to tide you over while we’re waiting for the next announcement..make up sculpt for one of the characters in Hell-O-Ween Scarezone pic.twitter.com/BTi4gJmDcC

UPPER LOT
Here we have more progress on the new retail space coming together at the front of the park. This will be nice when done. We will have a cohesively themed entryway into the park now.
The Passport to Fear events are one-night, special ticketed meet-ups at the best haunts in southern California. We take you behind the scenes, introduce you to the creators of the haunted attractions you love, and march you to the front of the line. It’s a guided tour of terror sold only by HorrorBuzz.
Tickets to the four events are on sale NOW here on the site.
Titans of Terror
Okay. So here we have what has been called Maze number 4 by Murdy in his tweets. Speculation is pointing to this one being the Titans of Terror Maze and we are thinking the ominous brick pillar might have a clue.
The Horrors of Blumhouse
We finally know that this will be the long-rumored Blumhouse mash-up maze. Murdy drops some details on how this new maze will be a little unique. Murdy explained through tweets that the Horrors of Blumhouse would begin OUTSIDE the courtyard in the Universal Plaza in an unusual layout.
“By the pricking of my thumbs…something wicked this way comes.”
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
Jason Blum brings Sinister, Happy Death Day and The Purge to life at #UniversalHHN in The Horrors of Blumhouse! pic.twitter.com/tuNYfpii0o
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
Hello Boils and Ghouls…have some information for you on today’s maze announcement “The Horrors of Blumhouse”….
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
All the way back in December 2017, Jason Blum pitched me the idea of doing a compilation house based on various Blumhouse films…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
I’ve worked with Jason & the Blumhouse team since 2013 and really liked the idea of a compilation house with multi-properties…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
The maze will feature scenes from the entire Purge and Sinister franchises and a new film called Happy Death Day that opens Friday Oct 13
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
Its an unusual layout in that the maze will begin inside the Universal Plaza where you have to go through a secret Purge compound…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
Once you come out of the plaza section, you head into a movie theatre facade that’s been shuttered for The Purge…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
…the movie theatre is hosting a Blumhouse Horror Film Festival with Happy Death Day and the Sinister films…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
This is the largest cast of any maze we’re doing this year…took a lot of performers to cover all those films…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
This will be the first time The Purge has been featured in a maze and of course Sinister, which I’ve been wanting to do for years…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
Sometimes it takes a while to get to a property…that’s true of Sinister. Excited to be bringing scenes from Sinister 1 and 2 to life…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 29, 2017
Terror Tram – Titans of Terror
The Titans of Terror with Chucky has been announced is the Terror Tram theme for this year. Jason, Freddy, Leatherface, and Chucky driving the tram. well, seems legit enough. There is plenty of progress to be seen now with basic maze fencing going up and even those terrifying torn sheets. We begin at the Bates Motel.
LOWER LOT
Heading to the lower lot we go to check on the progress on The Shining and Insidious: Beyond the Further.
Starway
The Starway is fully functional with only a few minor final touches.
The Shining
Murdy has been busy at work slathering the elevators with blood and placing the twins in the hallways of the Overlook Hotel. This one will be a fiendish slow burn.
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” pic.twitter.com/8SRaeOGxxD
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 19, 2017
I’m in The Shining, we’re adding all the blood to the elevator scene…lots and lots of blood! Thankfully it’ll dry fast in this heat!
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 30, 2017
Adding more blood to the blood elevator scene in The Shining. Why? You can never have too much blood. At least not in that scene
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 31, 2017
Insidious: Beyond the Further
Here are a few more tweets about the Insidious 4: Beyond the Further maze.
“By the pricking of my thumbs…something wicked this way comes.”
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
This year at #UniversalHHN, venture beyond the further in this terrifying new maze based on the @InsidiousMovie franchise! pic.twitter.com/VgLxKurvwA
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
…did want to say that this maze is based pretty heavily on the fourth installment of Insidious which comes out in January 2018…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
…that means you’ll get to experience characters and elements from the film before it opens making the maze a living trailer for the film
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
We previously did Insidious 1 and 2 in 2013 and 1-3 in 2015. Both of those mazes were extremely highly rated by our guests…Top 5 all time!
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
I was given the script for the 4th installment of Insidious a year ago and when I read it I immediately knew it should be a maze….
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
I don’t want to say too much since the trailer hasn’t landed yet but suffice it to say great new environments, new characters, etc…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
Tucker and Specs will continue the tradition of being out in front of the facade, interacting with the guests waiting in line…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
Tucker and Specs will also be the characters for this year’s nightly TWITTER PASSWORD that I’ve been doing for years. More on that later…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
Of course the “Red Doors” and “The Further” are a big part of the maze as they are in the film series. New “Red Doors” for the new film…
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
While a lot of the maze is the new film, the ghosts and demons from the past Insidious films will also make an appearance in the maze.
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
And lastly, just wanted to say its an honor each time we get to bring the work of @creepypuppet and @LWhannell to life! Thanks James & Leigh
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 28, 2017
Hanging out in Insidious tonight, mixing the maze audio.
— Horror Nights (@HorrorNights) August 31, 2017
BACKLOT
On the Backlot we see everything nearly set up for the hordes of horror junkies along with the Urban Inferno scare zone.
Ash Vs. Evil Dead
Really hoping that Ash. Vs. Evil Dead knocks it out of the park. This has the potential to be a raucous good time with gore to spare.
Saw: The Games of Jigsaw
The facade for Saw is all up and we are set to get trapped.
Maze 3: American Horror Story: Your Roanoke Nightmare – Backlot
The American Horror Story: Your Roanoke Nightmare is ne.arly in shape. We love the facade, inviting us in to the terrors of season 6.
As a matter of fact I’ve already begun meetings for HHN 2018 and am starting to line up potential properties for next year.
