Mad Cave Studios has announced an exciting new project: Marvel Studios writers Steven Paul Judd (“Echo,” “Dark Winds”) and Ken Kristensen (“Echo,” “The Continental”), along with feature writer Tvli Jacob (“Shouting Secrets”), are set to adapt tales from the legendary tabloid newspaper Weekly World News into a comic book series. The series is currently in production with Eisner-nominated artist M.K. Perker (“Air,” “Cairo”), and a television series based on the comic is in early stages of development.

Weekly World News, known for its outrageous headlines like “BIGFOOT KEPT LUMBERJACK AS LOVE SLAVE!” and “ANGRY TRUCKER SHOOTS DOWN UFO!”, will serve as the inspiration for the new series. Described as a blend of “The X-Files” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” the story follows the lives of a young journalist and a seasoned photojournalist at Weekly World News. Together, they investigate stories inspired by actual articles from the paper’s archives, uncovering bizarre mutants, unexplained phenomena, epic world secrets, and supernatural realities. Their unusual encounters are matched by eccentric relationships at the office and volatile family dynamics at home.

“We have found the perfect comic book home for The World’s Only Reliable News,” said Greg D’Alessandro, Chief Creative Officer for Weekly World News. “This brilliant, uber-talented team of creators combined with the amazing Mad Cave Studios makes this a match made in heaven. Bigfoot, Bat Boy, Ph.D. Ape—they’re all jumping for joy! They can’t wait to see our most outrageous and entertaining stories come to life in full color.”

Mark Irwin, president of Mad Cave Studios, added, “We are thrilled to team up with Steven, Ken, Tvli, and M.K. on the Weekly World News comic book series. With a distinguished body of work between them on projects like ‘Echo,’ ‘The Punisher,’ ‘Happy!,’ ‘The Continental,’ and ‘Dark Winds,’ you just know that they’ll deliver a tale that’s delightfully weird, full of cryptids and conspiracies, but built around a profound emotional core. We can’t wait to see what magnificent madness they’ll cook up!”

Kristensen and Perker previously created “Todd, the Ugliest Kid on Earth,” an Image Comics series picked up by FX for television development. Judd and Jacob collaborated with Perker on the Kirkus-starred “The Res Detectives.”
