Halloween starts early in our house, in reality I guess it never really goes away. From the very hint of stores stocking their shelves with spooky decorations the excitement begins to grow. The local supermarket clears the seasonal aisle of pool noodles, beer cozies, and various implements of grilling destruction. The shelves become a baron wasteland but not for long. Slowly the decorations, cheap costumes, and pumpkin carving devices fill up the aisle. I grab a venti non-fat Pumpkin Spice Latte and make my way into Halloween wonderland while doing a little happy dance.
While we get several weeks of build up, Halloween only lasts a few hours on the 31st. When the last group of trick or treaters ring my doorbell, I turn off the porch light, grab a few handfuls of what remains in the candy cauldron then slump on the couch to try and stave off my post Halloween depression.

Why can’t my favorite holiday last more than 4 hours?

Well, now it can! Hello “Harvest Jack!”

Created by JT Lean and Travis Jensen, “Harvest Jack” is a plush character accompanied with a book explaining about the “13 nights of hallow.”
If you have smaller children, you may be familiar with the concept of having to move a certain spy from the North Pole around the house each night in December.
Harvest Jack is similar but ultimately cooler.
Starting October 18th, Harvest Jack and his “Harvest Hero” buddies leave tricks and treats around your house.
I ran across Harvest Jack this past July at Mid-Summer Scream and immediately had to have one. It’s a terrific way to spread out the enchantment of Halloween in your household. I’m a big believer in keeping the magic of holidays alive for as long as possible with my kids (and even myself). 13 nights is just enough nights to create this magic without having to really try at the end of the run.

Several times during December I have jumped out of bed in a panic, realized the red suited sprite was in the same place and literally knocked him over out of desperation. 24 nights is a long time to keep coming up with mischief for that pointy eared snitch.

But 13 nights for Harvest Jack? I’m pretty sure that I can do some amazing things with him that will leave kids in awe.

I am anxiously awaiting October 18th when Harvest Jack makes his first appearance. It’s the perfect way for parents to get a few more  days of bats, brooms and boos!
