Dark Star Pictures is bringing a taste of 70s horror to modern audiences with the release of WINEVILLE, a wine-soaked slasher that’s set to hit select theaters on September 6, 2024, followed by a VOD, Digital, and Physical Media release on September 10, 2024. The film marks the directorial debut of Brande Roderick, known for her role as Leigh Dyer on the iconic television series Baywatch.

Set against the backdrop of a 1970s California vineyard, WINEVILLE follows a woman who, after fleeing her abusive father as a teenager, returns to her family’s vineyard to settle his affairs after his death. What she discovers is a chilling legacy of dark secrets that have only grown more sinister with time, leading to a gruesome tale of violence and death.

Roderick, who also stars in the film, is joined by an impressive cast including Carolyn Hennesy (General Hospital, Cougar Town), Texas Battle (Hard Kill, Coach Carter), Casey King (Star Trek: Picard), and Keaton Roderick Cadrez. The screenplay, written by Richard Schenkman (The Man From Earth), captures the essence of 70s horror, drawing inspiration from genre classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Last House on the Left.

“WINEVILLE was influenced by 70s horror classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Last House on the Left,” Roderick explains. “I wanted my first feature to be not only in the horror genre that I loved so much growing up, but to also pay homage to the flavor and style of that decade’s films that made such an impact on me.”

Shot at the historic Galleano Winery, WINEVILLE also nods to one of California’s most infamous true crime cases, the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders. These brutal crimes led to the eventual renaming of Wineville to Mira Loma, adding a layer of true-crime intrigue to the film’s chilling narrative.

WINEVILLE will arrive in select theaters on September 6, 2024, followed by a VOD, Digital, and Physical Media release on September 10, 2024.
