Lionsgate has released the trailer for KILLER WHALE, a new survival thriller set to arrive in theaters, On Demand, and on Digital on January 16, 2026. The film stars Virginia Gardner, Mel Jarnson, and Mitchell Hope, and is directed by Jo-Anne Brechin from a screenplay co-written by Brechin and Katharine E. McPhee.

KILLER WHALE centers on Trish, who plans an isolated getaway to help her best friend Maddie cope with a devastating personal loss. Their destination is a private lagoon located far from home, intended as a peaceful escape. That calm is quickly disrupted when a deadly orca begins stalking the waters, forcing the women into a fight for survival.

According to the film’s synopsis, the whale’s behavior is rooted in vengeance following a brutal history in captivity, reframing the predator as a consequence of human actions rather than a random threat. The trailer highlights the confined setting of the lagoon and the escalating danger as the characters attempt to outlast an opponent uniquely suited to its environment.
