This film is based on the alleged horrific events suffered by Karen Fernhill on October 23rd, 2011.
After telling her story to family and doctors, she slipped into a coma.
She remains asleep to this day.
So begins the creepy short film, Oct 23rd. Staring Amanda Wyss, Amanda Parsons, and Georgia McCorkle, this 10 minute horror film debuted online, Saturday April 30th and is now available to watch, for free. The movie is a reenactment of the accounts suffered by a woman named Karen Fernhill.
Played by A Nightmare On Elm Street’s Amanda Wyss, Fernhill arrives at the home of her friend, Paige after getting a distressing call. Paige’s daughter, Chelsea (McCorkle) is shivering and frightened, sitting in a dry bathtub upstairs while her mother chain-smokes in the living room, terrified of her daughter. Her friend, a mother under serious distress, attempts to explain that her daughter has psychic powers that she uses for nefarious deeds.
Seriously, what would you do if you had a nerve-wracked friend who called you in the middle of the night, had you come over, then proceeded to tell you that she was afraid of her own daughter. Wyss plays the part of a concerned, yet increasingly worried friend with the same sweetness that she used playing Tina, but with the added experience of age bringing a nice presence to the part. Parsons gets scary too with her completely strung out portrayal of a parent on the edge of sanity.
The film plays like the hook to a much bigger movie just waiting to be made. Is this story actually true? A quick Google search yields no results right off the bat so we are guessing no. But who cares. This is a fun little start to what could be a great screamer.
How do things play out? You’ve got 10 minutes don’t you? Watch the movie and let us know what you think.
