Devils in America is a triptych of sharp, unsparing short plays ripped from real tabloid history. In D.O.A., Philip Littell plays Ed Buck in a portrait of the disgraced political donor’s secret Hollywood apartment. If I Ever See U Again stars Keythe Farley as Joseph Brooks, the Oscar-winning songwriter behind “You Light Up My Life,” as the sordid history behind the song comes to light. And in Madam/Madame, Suzanne Fletcher portrays Ghislaine Maxwell — in hell. Together the three pieces form what Sargent calls a night with “a trio of terrible people.”
Sargent, a longtime fixture of the Los Angeles underground theatre scene, has staged work at the Actor’s Gang, the Evidence Room, the Kirk Douglas Theater, and ZJU going back to the 1980s. His most recent Zombie Joe’s production was the 2026 mini-comedy Cheat Days. The full ensemble for Devils in America includes Bradley Bazile, Carter Calahan, Shaheed Chapple, Ruby Farley, Shannon Holt, and Margaret Julian, with the production produced by Zombie Joe.
The show is intended for audiences 18 and older and contains nudity, strong language, and mature themes. ZJU Theatre is wheelchair accessible.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door at ZombieJoes.TIX.com. ZJU Theatre Group is located at 4850 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA 91601.
