Intruder Films’ psychological Christmas horror feature A Cold Season begins streaming November 10, 2026, through MVD Entertainment Group. The film, written and directed by Christian Jude Grillo, trades the killer Santa trope for something colder and more unsettling.
A Cold Season follows Jacob White (Andrew Hunsicker), a lonely man whose quiet winter routine hides a string of murders. As his grip on reality fractures, a dark double of himself, a figure the film casts as “Santa,” appears to push him further toward violence. The movie deliberately leaves open whether that Santa is real, a hallucination, or someone Jacob has created to carry the guilt for what he is doing.
The filmmakers shot during an actual Pennsylvania winter, using real snow, mountains, isolated roads, and massive wind turbines as part of Jacob’s increasingly fractured world. Rather than simply setting the story at Christmas, they turned the holiday against the viewer: snow, lights, decorations, and nostalgia begin as images of warmth and slowly become colder, lonelier, and more threatening.
Grillo also handled cinematography, editing, and music. Hunsicker produced the film and plays the lead, and says it is the third feature the pair has completed in a little over two years. Their first, the sci-fi horror film Intruder, was made on a roughly 700-square-foot practical spaceship set they built themselves, followed by the psychological thriller Neighbor.
A Cold Season arrives on streaming through MVD Entertainment Group on November 10, 2026.
