The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival will host the North American premiere of Cinderella, the latest short in Wayward Entertainment’s horror anthology series Tales from the Woods. Directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer, the film joins two previously acclaimed installments—The Sleeping Beauty from Mattie Do and Jacques the Giant Slayer from Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead—marking the first time all three stories will screen together.

Tales from the Woods reimagines the dark origins of classic fairy tales through the lens of visionary filmmakers from around the world. Each short offers a distinctive interpretation rooted in folklore and transformed through horror. The series has already made appearances at international festivals including Fantastic Fest, Locarno, and Oldenburg, building momentum ahead of its 2026 streaming debut.
Mortimer returns to Brooklyn Horror after winning Best Picture and Best Director for Daniel Isn’t Real in 2019. On returning to the festival, he shared, “It’s incredible to be back here for the North American premiere of Cinderella, where I’m joining two other Tales from the Woods in our ongoing journey through the dark heart of fairy tales.”
In Cinderella, a toxic planet and a fearful kingdom set the stage for a haunting reimagining in which the titular character strikes a pact with the haunted woods to confront the Prince’s fortress. The short stars Zolee Griggs, Miles Robbins, and Dylan Gelula.
