Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello are reuniting for a new feature film project, a comedic reimagining of Roger Corman’s 1959 sci-fi horror title The Wasp Woman. The film brings together two of the creative forces behind Strangers with Candy, marking their first collaboration on a feature in years.

Sedaris and Dinello first met in the early 1990s as members of The Second City touring company, alongside fellow Strangers with Candy co-creator Stephen Colbert. The trio went on to create the Comedy Central series, which aired for three seasons from 1999 to 2000 and later expanded into a feature film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The series and film became cult favorites and helped launch or further establish the careers of a wide range of performers.

The new project follows the core premise of The Wasp Woman, centering on Janice Starlin, a cosmetics company founder who experiments with enzymes derived from queen wasps in an attempt to reverse aging, leading to dangerous and unexpected consequences. Dinello is set to write and direct the film.

“I love working with these guys. Can’t wait!” Sedaris said in a statement expressing her enthusiasm for the project.

Dinello added, “When I read the story about a former supermodel turned dynamic businesswoman who slowly metamorphosed into a violent insect, I immediately thought, Amy Sedaris.”

Casting is currently in development, with Joseph Middleton, a longtime collaborator on the Strangers with Candy film and former head of casting at Paramount, overseeing the process. Additional cast announcements are expected during pre-production.

Producers on the film include Mark Roberts, Jordan Fields of Radial Entertainment, Meyer Shwarzstein of Another Brainy Idea, and Michael Richter of A Major Production. Radial Entertainment owns the Roger Corman library through its Shout! Studios brand.
