Filmhub has announced the US digital release of Basic Psych, a psychological thriller directed by Melissa Martin (The Bread, My Sweet) and starring two-time Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris (Assassins, Fun Home). The film debuts on digital platforms April 21, 2026, and is available to rent or own on Apple TV, Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.

Basic Psych centers on a psychiatrist whose professional ethics trap him in a nightmare. When one of his patients — a paranoid murderer — begins to blur the line between sessions and threats, the doctor and his family are slowly drawn into a cat-and-mouse game with no clean exit. The film explores the terrifying gap between what a psychiatrist knows and what he’s legally permitted to act on, making the oath to “do no harm” feel like a death sentence.

Cerveris stars opposite David Conrad (The Ghost Whisperer), Cotter Smith (Mindhunter), and Siena Goines (Westworld). The screenplay was written by James Tucker (Abra Cadaver, the Jack Merlin mystery series). Shot on location in and around Pittsburgh with local cast and crew on both sides of the camera, Basic Psych premiered as the opening night film of the Three Rivers Film Festival before landing its digital distribution deal through Filmhub.

Martin and Tucker shared a note ahead of the release: “What a journey Basic Psych has been. Michael Cerveris and David Conrad made perfect foes. We’re excited for fans of psychological thrillers to figure this one out.”
