Goths, steam punk, industrial, rockabilly, psycho-billy, and everyone who loves to be spooky came from all over for a weekend of fun around the Disneyland Resort. From their Swinging Wake to their Bats Day Fun in the Park, everyone there gathered for the love of the macabre and Disney. We’ll be looking specifically at Bats Day Fun in the Park here, so if you wish to read the coverage on the Black Market, it’ll be up on the site soon.
But for now…let’s fly bats to Disneyland!
Bats Day Fun in the Park is the last event for the Bats Day Weekend. On Sunday, May 31st, hundreds of people gathered at Disneyland to have fun in the park and to be amongst the many people who share the same love for the dark and spooky. This event has been going on for ghoulish delights for 17 years. From the young to the old, this is a marvelous event that is fun for everyone. This event is the joy of dressing up, being spooky at Disneyland, and being amongst fellow fiends.
People come from all over to participate. For some, this was their 1st Bats Day, and for other, this was their 11th or 17th year attending.
Socializing amongst the “Grim Grinning Ghosts,” parents apart of our “subculture” bring their children to this event. This once-a-year gathering means so much to them, and to include their families in the fun is a delight.
This is a magnum opus that brings everyone from this community together. Friends who normally don’t see each other all year get to reunite here. This is an event where everyone can forget their troubles of life and have fun at the “happiest place on earth.” They can be free to express themselves through fun outfits and being amongst fiends.
One of the highlights of the day is the group photo in front of the castle at 12 P.M. This is a tradition where everyone gathers together for an epic photo representing the community of hundreds of happy haunts. It is such a wonderful sight to see all these people who are united by the love for the macabre gather in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle for the 60th anniversary. From the picture, they slowly disperse into the park enjoying the spooky day at Disney.
Throughout the day, and into the night, Bats Day did giveaways on their Instagram and Twitter. They would post a picture clue of where they were, and the first bats to reach the location got a prize. It’s a fun little treat for the bats who attended the event.
Fitting perfectly with the day filled with happy haunts, a full moon rose into the sky as the night grew and for the second group photo the Bats flew to their home…The Haunted Mansion. Riding the Mansion with ghouls is so much more fun, as everyone recites all the lines of the ride by heart. You can hear their voices synchronize singing and reciting the lines of the Ghost Host.
This event would not be as awesome as it was without the amazing Bats Day team who help with all the festivities of Bats Day Weekend. Also a shout out and thank you to Noah Korda, the head bat for this event. He is the founder and the man who brings this event to life every year. Thank you everyone for a scary great Bats Day! Can’t wait for next year!
I highly recommend this event for everyone who loves the spooky and would like to be amongst a grand group of people who love the same thing. It’s a weekend of spooky fun for everyone. All the pictures to this event are down below and thank you to everyone who participated. Thank you for joining me on this journey to Bats Day Fun in the Park! Hope to see you all soon in the Dark!
