Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino, Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), and renowned body-actor Doug Jones (Shape of Water) to star in Adam Marino’s 2019 crime-detective thriller, Beneath The Leaves.

Synopsis: Among countless others, four small-town boys are kidnapped by James Whitley, a deranged, warm-eyed psychopath. His grotesque pursuit to reunite orphaned children with their deceased birth parents is gridlocked when the boys escape and he is arrested. Twenty years later, Whitley flees during a prison fire and decides to see his mission through. Detective Larson, one of Whitley’s prior victims – and now a cop – is removed from the case due to impartiality leaving his partner and lover, Detective Shotwell to solve the case. Fueled by rage and a chance of redemption, Detective Larson chases the steadfast psychopath on his own, only to fall back into the same trap he once escaped as a child.

Indie thrillers are often pretty rough around the edges for me, due to either low budget and/or low bravery (to “go there”), however this trailer looks promising. Perhaps that is to be expected with movie-monster-master Doug Jones slated to play child killer, James Whitley. Could this be a rare speaking role for Jones? In the film, he is up against determined detectives Erica Shotwell played by Mira Sorvino and newcomer Kristoffer Polaha as Detective Brian Larson. Mira’s real-life father, Paul Sorvino, rounds out the cast as Captain Parker. I am excited and thoroughly creeped out by what seems to be a dark and psychological trip down memory lane with an escaped serial killer and his ones that got away – the cubs are all grown up and ready to bite back!

Beneath the Leaves will have a theatrical and video on demand release February 8th, 2019. Distributed by Vertical Entertainment.
