It’s safe to say that zombie movies have been around for a while now. In fact, the genre has a long and storied history, with countless entries in both film and television. It can be tough for any new zombie movie to stand out from the rest of the pack and, unfortunately, Bridge of the Doomed doesn’t really have any kind of hook. It just comes across as bland and unimaginative, with none of the subversive charm or visceral terror that make other zombie movies work.

With the country, and possibly the world, in the grips of a zombie outbreak, a company of solders are tasked with holding the line against the undead hoard on a bridge. As time passes and resources dwindle, they find not only survivors but something even deadlier stalking them at night. Running out of time and options, will they be able to complete their mission or fall like so many before?

Though the acting in Bridge of the Doomed is wooden in places, you could tell the actors were legitimately trying their best to make the material work. The result was a movie that’s unintentionally hilarious, yet still manages to be entertaining. Sgt Hernandez (Kate Watson) and General Vasquez (Robert LaSardo) would be the closest cast to be considered some sort of main protagonist. They do fine in their roles, nothing to really write home about. As a whole, the acting ranges from okay to downright rough. In any film, the quality of the acting can make or break the viewing experience.

However, even the best actors can’t save a poorly written script or poorly edited film. Such is the case with Bridge of the Doomed. The acting itself isn’t terrible, but it’s clear that the actors were working with a subpar script. With moments so badly written you can’t help but laugh. I found the editing in this film to be very choppy, which made it difficult to follow the plot. The film jumped from day to night with little to no reason, and as a result, I often felt lost. However, I will say that the sound was mostly even, which was a positive. But overall, the choppy editing made it hard for me to enjoy.

Bridge of the Doomed is far from being the best movie out there, but it certainly isn’t the worst either. In fact, it could be rather enjoyable to watch with some friends. The acting is certainly not top shelf, but it’s passable. The plot is extremely predictable, but that doesn’t make it any less of a decent time waster. And, despite its limited budget, the movie does have some good practical effects. So, if you’re looking for a movie to watch with some friends on a Friday night, don’t write Bridge of the Doomed off just yet. It might not be Oscar-worthy, but it’s still entertaining, nonetheless.
