Titan Comics and Blizzard have partnered on a new four-issue series expanding the lore of the Diablo video game universe — and the creative team behind it is exactly the right fit for this kind of dark, demonic horror.

Diablo: Dawn of Hatred #1 goes on sale April 22, 2026, written by Cullen Bunn (Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe) and illustrated by Daniele Serra (Hellraiser Anthology), with inks by Giusi Lo Piccolo and colors by Jovanna Plata (The Black Monday Murders). The first issue features covers by Adam Gorham, Nick Marinkovich, Dev Pramanik, and Andrea Olimpieri.

The story picks up with the return of Akarat, the ancient figure whose teachings spawned the Zakarum faith. He claims he has come back to spread peace, love, and the Light — his powers already healing the leader of the Fox Tribe, winning the barbarians as his most devoted followers. Derris, however, remains skeptical, sharing his doubts with a fellow skeptic named Vrexia. When assassins come for Akarat, Derris must choose: protect the holy man or let the violence consume his tribe. Bunn’s premise puts questions of faith, manipulation, and the endless cycle of violence in Sanctuary at the center of the story, which is smart territory for a Diablo expansion.

Serra’s work on the Hellraiser anthology makes him a natural choice — his art carries a weight and texture that suits demonic mythology well.
