Here is another lovely entry for holiday horror.
Edward Scissorhands
You can argue on this one but it’s on our list anyway. Edward Scissorhands, a lot like Gremlins and Die Hard, are movies that, by association, are Christmas films. So much so that Edward is responsible for the magical snow that falls on the suburban township below the towering mountain he calls home. Tim Burton’s follow up to Beetlejuice, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, and Batman, surprised moviegoing public with it’s heartwarming tale of a robot on a hill, discovered by the rest of the world. The film also delivered Johnny Depp his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. It also made Avon Lady’s cool again for a hot minute.
We love this film because it has two of the needed ingredients for holiday viewing, twinkling lights and it has blades. It also has snow, ice sculptures, and a misunderstood outsider robot who’s only crime was being more human than the people around him. That, friends, is pretty much how we horror folk feel at this time of year, is it not?
Merry Christmas!
