Focus Features has announced the U.S. release date for Obsession, the feature debut from writer-director Curry Barker. The film, which made its world premiere in the Midnight section at the Toronto International Film Festival, will open in theaters nationwide on May 15, 2026. Universal Pictures International will handle international distribution.
After its TIFF debut, Obsession continued its festival run with sold-out screenings at Fantastic Fest and earned the People’s Choice Award at Sitges. The film stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.
The story follows a hopeless romantic who, in a desperate attempt to win his crush’s affection, breaks the mysterious “One Wish Willow.” When his wish appears to come true, he soon learns that some desires carry a dark cost.
Produced by James Harris (Teashop Productions), Haley Nicole Johnson (Under the Shell), and Christian Mercuri on behalf of Capstone Pictures, Obsession marks Barker’s entry into the genre spotlight with Focus Features at the helm.
Focus Features continues its strong slate of filmmaker-driven releases, including Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia, and Robert Eggers’ upcoming Werwulf, arriving Christmas Day 2026.
Obsession opens exclusively in theaters May 15, 2026.
