An exciting announcement from 11 bit studios came just last week – Frostpunk: Console Edition is receiving three expansions on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on July 21st. New gameplay mechanics, new buildings, new stories, new dilemmas, and more through the additions: The Last Autumn, On the Edge, and The Rifts. 

These new arrivals will be available either sold separately, or now in the form of a Season Pass, a system that has been wildly exploding in popularity in recent years. For clarification, these expansions are already available on PC.

The Last Autumn is set up as a prequel story, taking place before the endless snow steers the game’s mood into entirely new territory. Filled with green trees, a ship dock, and a new task for players to oversee the rise of the Generator, this expansion is by far the most distinguishable of the three. With high stakes and a short deadline, players must decide how hard to push the community to fight for humanity’s final hope. 

On the Edge follows the events after the Great Storm, and after the ending of the base game. With no Generator available for use, players are responsible for building and maintaining a new outpost outside of the city. A recently discovered military warehouse seems to have necessary resources available, if you’re willing to take the risk.

Lastly, The Rifts simply adds a new map for the Endless mode, and even new bridges as a way to gather resources and materials scattered across different islands.

“All expansions had to serve two purposes when we designed them. We wanted to broaden the lore since the game portrays people’s hardship in the fight with nature, and we put a lot of emphasis on narrative, but also introduce new mechanics. We didn’t want to go with delivering more fun that plays almost like the base game approach, and three expansions ended up being distinguishable from the base game but also each other. All expansions will be available from July 21st on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. All can be bought separately and in a Season Pass. Frostpunk will also be available in a bundled Complete Edition that comes with the base game and three expansions.
