The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA), comprising over 500 entertainment critics, journalists, and media figures, has revealed the nominations for its 16th annual Dorian Film Awards. The awards celebrate excellence in both mainstream and LGBTQ-themed entertainment, recognizing what the group calls “the expert Q+ eye on entertainment.”

Leading the nominees is Jane Schoenbrun’s psychological horror I Saw the TV Glow, securing nine nods. Demi Moore’s return to the spotlight with the thriller The Substance follows closely with eight nominations. Other standout contenders include the genre-defying trans mobster musical Emilia Pérez and the dramatic Challengers, both earning six nominations.

Additional films receiving recognition include Brady Corbet’s ambitious epic The Brutalist with five nominations, while Anora, Nickel Boys, and Wicked each garnered four. Problemista and Queer rounded out the list with three nominations each.

A24 emerged as a dominant force, collecting 25 nominations across multiple categories. Other studios making a strong showing include Amazon MGM (13), Netflix (11), and Mubi (10).

The Dorian Film Awards also spotlight unique categories, such as Unsung Film of the Year, where Hundreds of Beavers competes, and Campiest Flick, featuring titles like Madame Web and Trap. Films like Nosferatu, Dune: Part Two, and The Brutalist vie for Visually Striking Film of the Year.

GALECA also announced plans to honor a career achievement recipient with its Timeless Star award, to be revealed alongside the winners on February 13. Celebrations for winners and nominees are set for a brunch event the following Sunday.

In addition to its awards, GALECA pledged a $1,000 donation to the Los Angeles Press Club’s emergency relief fund, supporting entertainment journalists impacted by the recent devastating wildfires in the region. The donation aims to assist journalists who have suffered losses during an already challenging time for the profession.

John Griffiths, GALECA’s Executive Director, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “Entertainment journalists are an integral part of the Hollywood ecosystem, and we want to ensure their needs are recognized.” Vice President Diane Anderson-Minshall echoed this sentiment, praising the Press Club and its partners for their efforts.
