Tokyo Bay Films has released the first trailer for Hibagon: Japanese Bigfoot, a comedy horror film billed as the first feature about Japan’s legendary cryptid. The movie comes from the studio’s Culture Shock Japan horror label (Tokyo Home Stay Massacre, Ouija Japan) in partnership with the Australian horror YouTube channel Shockmania, and it will premiere on that channel on August 5, 2027.

The story follows Jacob, an American in Japan whose life is under pressure. His wife Ema seems distant, his boss ignores his work, and his university crush Mary is back in the picture, though she is dating a man named Shinji. Hoping to blow off steam, Jacob organizes a camping weekend in the Japanese woods with Mary and friends. A mysterious lumberjack invites them to a party, they turn him down, and he leaves a warning they should have heeded: “Beware of Hibagon!”

Daniel Grbac directs. Canadian comedian JJ Walters, Japanese-American actress Ally Yoshida, and Masaki Naito (Hot Spring Shark Attack) star. The premiere will include a live stream with Grbac, composer Chris Kanaris, and producer Wilco C.J. Rullens.
