We all know that Six Flags Magic Mountain is the coaster capitol of the world that features one of southern California’s biggest Halloween events. Sadly, Fright Fest is done, in fact, the Halloween season is but a distant memory. Not to worry though as Magic Mountain quickly switches gears right after the fog machines and monsters are locked away for the year and they pull out a ton of holiday cheer as they present Holiday in the Park. Literally millions of twinkling lights, copious amounts of snow, Santa, Mrs. Claus, elves, and a terrifying amount of delicious treats are all waiting thrill seekers who are hungry for more fun after Halloween.

Holiday in the Park runs Nov 19-27, Dec. 3,4,10,11, 17-24 26-31 Jan 1 2017 from 10am-9pm

Holiday Square

The first area guests see when they enter Magic Mountain is the entry plaza. This area is blanketed in an impressive amount twinkling lights, setting the tone for what is throughout the park. Here occasional snowfall showers the pathways as you make your way past the funnel cake shop (that always has a line) and Coldstone’s IceCream.  If you are lucky you will catch the roaming acapella singers entertaining the crowds.

Santa’s WILD Sleigh Ride

Set to debut on November 19 – Climb aboard The New Revolution and take off on a wild Virtual Reality adventure with Santa and his reindeer as they battle a mischievous elf.

Earlier this year, Six Flags Magic Mountain introduced The NEW Revolution. A fully refurbished version of the classic 1976 coaster that was the first in the world to feature a full 360º loop received a brand new paint job, track refurbishments, a new lighting package, and brand new trains that did away with the painful over the shoulder restraints. What most didn’t expect was the inclusion of a totally new virtual reality element that completely changed the ride.

As Holiday in the park rolled around, Six Flags offered another surprise.  Guests eager to step aboard Santa’s sleigh can get on the classic Revolution, slip on a  Samsung VR headset, and go on a virtual ride with Santa as he chases a mischievous elf through a snow-covered town. This new overlay was a heck of a lot of fun and exactly what Magic Mountain should be doing with this technology. It’s these easy-to-produce seasonal overlays that offer a new extra entertainment value.

NEW! Gleampunk District

Brand new to Holiday in the Park is the new Gleampunk district. This is the area leading to Twisted Colossus and it is a totally new section of Christmas fun. Gears substitute as snowflakes and mechanical merry makers decorate the planters.  Seriously, this was a seriously impressive area. It is here that Six Flags Magic Mountain’s continued effort to add charm and aesthetic value to the surroundings and seasonal offerings is really shinning.

The planters are coated in spiraling lights and inventive decorations including these creepy mechanical Santas.

Kwerkmas

Within the Gleampunk district, Six Flags Entertainment department has created a holiday tinged acrobatics show called Kwerkmas. While we would have preferred Twerkmas, this show was just as good. Filled with impressive acrobatics, dance, and some pretty amazing stunts, Kwerkmas is something that will entertain every member of the family.

Rockin’ Universe (DC Universe)

With few changes, the Christmas Overlay for DC Universe is back. Rockin’ Universe gives WDW’s Osborne Lights a run for their money with some dazzling synchronized light displays that coat the entire land in visual choreography. This year the improved sound system does a better job spreading the music throughout the area.

Snowy Nights

Near the Full Throttle coaster, they have a stage set up with constant live entertainment. This area, called Snowy Nights, is a high energy, festive plaza where you can watch the crowds or the stage. Always entertaining.

Winter Wonderland

Our favorite section of Holiday in the Park, Winter Wonderland is back in the Rapids Camp.  Wandering under the towering supports of The New Revolution, we come upon a canopy of icicles and snow. Diamond-like pin points of luminous white pepper the landscape and the trees around you. Snow blankets the area too, reflecting the bright lights, creating a tunnel of

At the Rapids Camp we arrive at the North Pole area of Winter Wonderland.  Here guests can enjoy coloring and crafts with the elves, have a heart to heart chat with the lovely Mrs. Claus, or even visit the big guy himself, Santa.

Without question, this is the best Mrs. Claus in Southern California. Every year, always so kind, so caring. AWESOME.

Yes, this is a horror site, but as we fade from the scary to the merry, we see that some of our favorite haunt parks are bring out another type of showmanship. Pretty much the only thing scary here is the amount of calories that you can take in, eating you way through the park. But in all honesty, Magic Mountain has trotted out their best Holiday in the Park yet, with offerings that will appeal to every member of the family. They have everything from the thrilling to the heartwarming and they are to be commended on a superb job.

If you are looking for something to help you get over the Post Halloween Depression Syndrome, there is plenty to enjoy at Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Holiday in the Park.
