Miracle Media has announced Mockbuster, a new feature documentary from director Anthony Frith that goes behind the curtain at The Asylum — the notorious B-movie production house behind Sharknado, Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, and countless other genre staples. The film arrives on digital platforms on July 27, 2026.

Mockbuster follows Frith, an Australian filmmaker who abandoned a career in corporate video to pursue his true ambition of making movies. When he lands a surprise job with The Asylum — tasked with directing a lost-world dinosaur film in suburban Adelaide on a six-day shoot and a shoestring budget — he seizes the opportunity and turns the camera on himself. What follows is equal parts comedy and confession: LA executives with big demands, a bewildered cast, and one first-time director’s mounting self-doubt all collide as two productions grind forward simultaneously.

The film features appearances from Eric Roberts, Danny Philippou (Talk to Me), Michael Paré, Glenn Campbell, Rachel Lee Goldenberg, Paul Bales, David Latt, David Rimawi, and Brendan Petrizzo.

For horror fans who have ever wondered how The Asylum actually operates — how a Titanic II gets greenlit, how a Sharknado sequel gets off the ground — Mockbuster promises a candid, funny, and unexpectedly moving look at the machinery behind the mayhem.
