Hulu has unveiled the trailer for My Grandfather Charles Manson, a new true crime documentary premiering July 22, 2026, on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S., with an international release on Disney+. The film follows Sophia Maddox — who co-directs — as she uncovers the most unsettling discovery of her life: the unknown grandfather she set out to identify is Charles Manson.

The documentary is a deeply personal investigation. Sophia was always her father’s good girl, but when her search for her unknown grandfather leads to Manson — a man who bears striking physical similarities to her beloved father — she’s pulled into an underworld of Manson family members and unreliable narrators. Her own DNA unlocks never-before-released records and exclusive audio recordings that illuminate Manson’s psychology, but the deeper she goes, the more the truth strains her relationship with her father.
My Grandfather Charles Manson is co-directed by Sophia Maddox and Alexandra Orton, and produced by Matt Renner for SMUGGLER Entertainment, Alexandra Orton, and Eric Cook. Sophia Maddox serves as executive producer through Joan of Arc Pictures, alongside Tim Pastore, Brian Carmody, and Patrick Milling-Smith for SMUGGLER Entertainment.
The documentary is part of Hulu’s expanding true crime programming slate, joining titles like Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke, Friends Like These: The Murder of Skylar Neese, and Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini.
My Grandfather Charles Manson premieres July 22, 2026, on Hulu.
