For the uninitiated, the WNUF Halloween Special is a fake news broadcast about an investigative reporter doing a piece about a haunted house where eerie events begin to happen complete with era-appropriate commercials. This film by Chris LaMartina became an instant classic with the horror community for the way it perfectly captured 80s television, that included a huge amount of commercials made by friends of the director. So it was only a matter of time before he would come back with a sequel and the Out There Halloween Mega Tape is here to tackle the 90s.

Out the gate Chris hones in on what the 90s obsessions were and that was aliens and talk shows. The film starts off with a Ricki Lake/ Arsenio Hall style talk show that is hosting it Halloween episode to set the mood and engross the audience in the atmosphere. Immediately following a self proclaimed vampire getting a makeover we are back with the WNUF news team preparing a live broadcast of an alien investigation team to celebrate the new season of their hit show Out There when they start to get more alien activity then what they bargained for.

At a screening of the film Chris describe the WNUF Halloween special and the Out There Halloween Mega Tape as “anti-movies” and it is clear to see where he is coming from. These films are meant to be enjoyed from the home, lounging on your couch with a bag of chips, with them just running on the TV. It is the commercials breaking up the plot that add to the charm where this can be on in the background or with you on your phone and you are still experiencing it.
