The survival thriller Primate, directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down), will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 21.
Written by Roberts and Ernest Riera, Primate centers on Lucy, who returns to her family’s tropical island home expecting a relaxing visit with friends. Instead, the trip turns dangerous when the family’s highly intelligent chimpanzee begins exhibiting violent behavior. With her father away and no outside help available, Lucy and her friends are forced to confront a deadly situation involving a creature they once trusted.
The home media release includes several bonus features offering insight into the production. Director Johannes Roberts and producer Walter Hamada provide a full-length commentary track discussing the film’s development and execution.
Additional featurettes explore the filmmaking process behind the project. Primal Terror: Directing Primate looks at the evolution of the story and production. New Blood: The Faces of Primate introduces the cast, including Academy Award winner Troy Kotsur. Creating Ben focuses on the physical performance and practical effects used to bring the chimpanzee character to life, while Designing Paradise examines the construction of the tropical villa setting used in the film.
