The acclaimed Tasmanian short, The Room at the Top of the Stairs, will be joining Shudder, the horror streaming service.

The film is told in the style of gothic melodrama and coming-of-age story.
The film is highly influenced by Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier’s exploration of identity confusion and obsession as well as 1970’s horror films. The Room at the Top of the Stairs stars the upcoming talented Fiannah de Rue and also features an original score by Heath Brown. The film is produced by Adam Walker Film in Hobart, Australia, and financed by Screen Tasmania.

The film focuses on a young artist who feels overshadowed by a charming girl she’s never met. Her life changes when she decides to pursue the same footsteps as her nemesis. Autobiographical in origin, it world premiered at Los Angeles New Wave International Film Festival and haunted the viewers with excitement.

Director Briony Kidd was mentored by Jennifer Kent who is now the director of the Stranger With My Face International Film Festival and director of The Babadook. Kent is also the coordinator of the festival’s Attic Lab, focuses on women genre filmmakers. Her next feature film will be a post-apocalyptic psycho-biddy thriller with producer Catherine Pettman with support by Screen Australia.
