Fans of classic European horror will soon have another collection to add to their shelves as Severin Films prepares to release Danza Macabra Volume 5: The Spanish Gothic Collection. The latest entry in the label’s ongoing series explores Spanish Gothic cinema through four restored and uncut genre films presented across five discs.

The collection includes the North American disc premiere of Strange Voyage (1964), directed by Fernando Fernán Gómez. The film blends elements of true crime and Gothic storytelling while featuring a notable performance from filmmaker and actor Jess Franco.
Also included is Exorcism’s Daughter (1971), presented in its complete U.S. version alongside the original Spanish version, Las Melancólicas. Both cuts are making their disc debut, giving viewers the opportunity to compare the two editions of the film for the first time in a home media release.
The set continues with The Dracula Saga (1973), directed by León Klimovsky. The vampire tale arrives uncut in North America for the first time, expanding Severin’s ongoing efforts to preserve and present lesser-seen European horror titles.
Rounding out the collection is The Turn of the Screw (1985), director Eloy de la Iglesia’s adaptation of the classic novella by Henry James. The film offers a distinctive interpretation of the source material while showcasing a later-era example of Spanish Gothic filmmaking.
According to Severin Films, each feature has been newly scanned from original camera negatives or archival 35mm elements. The release also includes more than ten hours of supplemental content, featuring audio commentaries, interviews, video essays, and additional featurettes exploring the films and their place within Spanish horror history.
Danza Macabra Volume 5: The Spanish Gothic Collection is now available for pre-order through Severin Films. The company is also offering all four previous Danza Macabra collections at 50% off SRLP through June 8, giving collectors an opportunity to revisit the series before the newest volume arrives.
