Shudder has secured the North American, UK & Ireland, and ANZ rights to Mother of Flies, the newest feature from the genre-bending Adams Family filmmaking collective—Toby Poser, John Adams, and their daughter Zelda Adams. The acquisition extends the streamer’s collaboration with the trio following Hell Hole and the festival-favorite Hellbender.
Set to make its world premiere July 24, 2025 at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival, Mother of Flies follows Mickey, a young woman confronting a terminal diagnosis. Determined to cheat death, she retreats into the woods with her father to undergo three harrowing days of “death magic” under the guidance of enigmatic recluse Solveig. As rituals intensify, buried family secrets and spectral forces blur the line between life and afterlife, forcing Mickey to weigh the true cost of survival.
Directors Poser, Adams, and Adams expressed gratitude for returning to what they call Shudder’s “beautiful creative home,” while Shudder VP of Programming Samuel Zimmerman praised the film as a “deeply felt and frightening” complement to Hellbender. The deal was brokered by Zimmerman for Shudder and Yellow Veil Pictures’ Hugues Barbier, Justin Timms, and Joe Yanick for the filmmakers.
Mother of Flies will debut on Shudder in 2026 following its festival run.
