One of the most surprising new games to be announced during this year’s Game Awards is the Japanese horror game Slitterhead. It was an exciting announcement especially for fans still mourning the loss of Silent Hill, a franchise that hasn’t had an entry since 2012.

The new title is being made by Bokeh studios, a game studio formed in 2020 and led by Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama. Slitterhead will be the studio’s debut and it looks promising. Toyama’s return to the horror genre would be reason enough for excitement, but the trailer that premiered during the Game Awards was also excellent.

野狗子: Slitterhead - Teaser Trailer - TGA 2021

Not much is known about the game’s story or characters yet, but the trailer did give us some general insight into what the game will be like. The game takes place in Japan and seems to take place during a monster-related disaster with plenty of burning cars and police being eaten. The monsters in question are truly bone-chilling, large skeletal monsters that grow out of seemingly normal humans. Fighting these monsters is a man in a motorcycle helmet and leather jacket who seems to have the power to manifest a sword made out of blood. While it looks more action-oriented than Silent Hill the grotesque, unsettling, imagery of humans transforming into the Slitterhead monsters is reminiscent of Toyama’s earlier work.

As of now, there is no release date or known platforms for Slitterhead.
