Harrison Atkins’ sophomore feature Sour Minnows will make its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 24, 2026, competing for the prestigious Cheval Noir Award. The absurdist psycho-horror comedy stars David Brown, Suzanna Son, and Chase Williamson as three disaffected LA cinephiles whose grip on reality begins to slip.

Sour Minnows opens on a strange afternoon: Ricky and a friend stumble upon six men sensually licking an empty Los Angeles street — a sight that ruptures something fundamental in Ricky’s perception. As his memories destabilize and his sense of reality grows porous, he finds himself drawn into contact with “The Yellow Thing,” a sinister entity that wears people like costumes. What begins as an inexplicable moment spirals into a delirious new logic where nothing — and no one — can be trusted.

David Brown (Jury Duty, Loot), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket, Fear Street: Prom Queen), and Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End, The Guest) headline the cast. Supporting players include Julia Jones, Phil Burgers, Ryan Perez, and Carmen Christopher. Atkins (Lace Crater) wrote and directed the film, and produced alongside Sarah Winshall, Allison Bunce, Kate Banford, Mel Barnes, Son, and Anne Gormely. Worldwide sales are handled by Gersh.

“Like the characters in this film, I grew up inside movies. In LA, that feels less like a metaphor than a diagnosis,” said Atkins ahead of the premiere. “For those drawn to the theater as a haunted space, this film is a living thing that watches back.”

Sour Minnows screens at Cinéma du Musée on July 24 at 6:45 PM, with an encore at Salle J.A. De Sève on July 29 at 1:45 PM. Visit the Fantasia Film Festival website for tickets and screening details.
