The official trailer has dropped for SUBJUGATION, an upcoming cyberpunk sci-fi horror film from director Doug Roos (Bakemono) that melds body horror, gothic vengeance, and the biomechanical visual language of classic anime into a blood-soaked practical effects showcase. Executive produced by Jun’ichi Yamamoto (Meatball Machine), the project launched alongside a Kickstarter campaign offering genre fans a chance to back the film directly.

SUBJUGATION unfolds in a not-too-distant-future Tokyo, where powerful men capable of transforming into monsters at will pull the strings of society through a brainwashing signal. As more and more women are stalked and murdered — and the streets of the city fill with death — a desperate fight for survival takes shape. The film draws explicit inspiration from The Crow and the anime classic Wicked City, channeling their gothic atmosphere and grotesque creature design through an all-practical-effects lens.

Roos helms the project with creature suits, physical builds, and atmospheric dread at the center of the production, doubling down on the approach he established with Bakemono. The cast includes Karen Yoshida, Tsukasa, Atsuto Fujita, Ai Tatsuzawa, Takuto Nakamura, and Motomasa Okui. Yamamoto, whose own directorial work on Meatball Machine defined a generation of Japanese splatter cinema, brings his practical effects expertise to the production as executive producer.

The Kickstarter campaign offers backers an exclusive, unrated crowdfunding-only cut of the film — packed with additional practical FX sequences, explicit content, and a region-free Blu-ray unavailable through standard distribution channels.
