Independent filmmaker Simon Manley has announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign for his upcoming folk-horror feature The Nachzehrer. Set against the stark landscapes of Northumberland and the urban backdrop of Newcastle, the project aims to merge grounded contemporary drama with ancient Germanic folklore.

The story follows three close friends whose lives unravel after the brutal murder of the youngest among them. As grief and guilt take hold, the survivors uncover a link to an old Germanic curse centered on the “Nachzehrer,” a mythic shroud-eating ghoul said to feed on the living. What begins as tragedy evolves into a confrontation with a force rooted in their shared past.
Manley’s vision emphasizes practical effects and physical tension, with production planned on location in Newcastle and the Northumberland wilderness. By drawing from lesser-known folklore, The Nachzehrer seeks to introduce a fresh mythological presence to the UK horror landscape while grounding the narrative in emotional realism.
The crowdfunding campaign is now live, inviting horror fans to support the film’s development and production as it moves toward bringing this regional folk legend to the screen.
