The maniacal minds at Universal Studios Hollywood are hard at work, creating an all-new walkthrough attraction based on the hit AMC series The Walking Dead. Set to open on Monday, July 4th, The Walking Dead will be an immersive, terrifying fight for survival that takes visitors through the steps of the characters in the series, on their way to a supposed safe haven. All the way, visitors will face hordes of killer Walkers, evil living, and other untold dangers.
Along with the announcement of the date, Universal released a video that takes us behind the scenes with Creative Director John Murdy, and Executive Producer, Greg Nicotero. Here
To bring this unique attraction to life, Universal has created a custom built, state-of-the-art facility that will house permanent, fully realized sets. The attraction will employ a total of approximately 100 male and female actors donning make up and molds developed by the creators of the show. “one of the things that we are always striving for is Authenticity.” Said Murdy, “That’s why weĀ were so excited to work with Greg Nicotero” (Executive Producer, The Walking Dead).
āAfter six years of working on āThe Walking Dead,ā we have a great opportunity to take āThe Walking Deadā out of the studio, off the soundstage and into an attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood where guests can come face-to-face with walkers,ā said Greg Nicotero. Ā He continued, āItās very exciting to be able to make the attraction as 100 percent authentic as possible. Weāre getting the chance to utilize molds that were created specifically for the show and translate them into parts of the attraction. Weāre creating animatronic walkers that guests will be able to seeā¦itās never been done beforeā¦.itās one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-artā¦.and I canāt wait.ā
In the video above we get a chance to see some of the detailed work coming to the walk through. Nicotero shares with us the process of creating new figures for the attraction using actual molds from the show. We also get a close up look at the eye-balls and the teeth being used in some of the new figures. Ā Really, this is as close to being in the show as you can get!
We can’t wait!
