Voltage Pictures has launched international sales on director Conor Allyn’s upcoming thriller NO MAN’S LAND, starring Frank Grillo, Jake Allyn, George Lopez, and Andie MacDowell, announced today by President and COO Jonathan Deckter. Voltage will introduce the project in post-production to buyers at the upcoming virtual Marche du Film. CAA Media Finance and XYZ Films are handling the US rights.
Filmed in the wildly dramatic Guanajuato, Mexico, this contemporary thriller is told by Texas brothers who grew up going back and forth between the U.S. and Mexico. The story is inspired by the real-life “no man’s land” on the Texas-Mexico border, where immigrants clash with ranchers who live on U.S. soil north of the Rio Grande – but south of the new border wall.
“In this highly polarized landscape, my brother and I wanted to shatter the myths and misconceptions about immigration and the U.S./Mexico border through a thrilling journey where audiences can walk in the shoes of others,” says Allyn. “We chose to focus No Man’s Land on a personal, human story with heart and hope to create a gripping yet entertaining film that audiences will love.”
The film follows Bill Greer (Grillo) and his son Jackson (Allyn), who patrol their ranch. They collide with a Mexican family led by Gustavo Almeida (Jorge A. Jimenez), who shepherds Mexican immigrants across the river. In the chaos, Jackson accidentally shoots and kills Gustavo’s 10-year-old son, triggering a perilous manhunt across deserts and mountains and the desire for revenge.
“Finding and nurturing gifted filmmakers like Conor and Jake is a good business to be in, so we’re thrilled to be back on board with them and the Margate House Films team,” said Deckter. “It’s been great to watch them progress as filmmakers and attract the caliber of talent we see here in No Man’s Land. It’s clear evidence that others are taking note of their exceptional work too.”
The film is produced by Rob, Conor, and Jake Allyn under their Margate House Films production banner in partnership with Bluegrass Pictures and the State of Guanajuato, Mexico. The film is championed by an all-Mexican team, including award-winning Director of Photography Juan Pablo Ramirez, Executive Producer Araceli Velazquez, and Co-Writer and Executive Producer David Barraza. Victor Almeida and Joel Shapiro produce, and Frank Grillo and Simon Fawcett serve as Executive Producers.
