Independent horror filmmaking takes center stage this fall as the Deadhead Film Festival prepares for its second annual event in St. Albans, West Virginia. Set for October 3, 2026, the one-day festival aims to bring together filmmakers, horror fans, and genre veterans for a packed program focused on emerging voices in horror cinema.
Hosted across two downtown St. Albans venues, the 2026 Deadhead Film Festival will feature 11 official film selections presented in two screening blocks at the Alban Arts Center. Alongside screenings, attendees can expect filmmaker networking opportunities, community programming, live events, and an awards presentation celebrating achievements in independent horror filmmaking.
Adding recognizable genre talent to the lineup, Bill Moseley and Ken Foree will appear as special guests for a live Q&A following the awards ceremony. Moseley is widely known to horror audiences for his work in The Devil’s Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, while Foree remains closely associated with George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. Paid signing sessions and photo opportunities with both guests will also be available at 63 Main Events, located next to the Alban Arts Center.
Festival organizers note that while the guest appearances add to the experience, the event’s primary focus remains on supporting independent horror creators. Presented by The Deadhead Productions Film Festival Foundation, the nonprofit event is designed as a gathering place for filmmakers, students, horror enthusiasts, and regional artists interested in genre storytelling.
Filmmakers can currently submit projects internationally through FilmFreeway, with award categories recognizing directing, performance, technical achievement, and independent horror storytelling. Cash prizes and sponsored awards will also be offered.
Ticket options will include VIP packages, reserved seating, general admission screening access, and signing-only admission. Premium ticket holders will receive early access and additional festival experiences. Select attendees can begin festival programming at 10 a.m., with screenings officially starting at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the 2026 Deadhead Film Festival go on sale May 15, offering horror fans another opportunity to explore independent genre filmmaking while connecting with creators and fellow audiences in West Virginia.
