LAIKA, the stop-motion studio behind Coraline, ParaNorman, and Kubo and the Two Strings, has released the first teaser trailer for Wildwood, director Travis Knight’s handcrafted dark fantasy epic, arriving in theaters nationwide on October 23, 2026, via Fathom Entertainment.
Wildwood follows headstrong teenager Prue McKeel after her baby brother is abducted by a murder of crows and dragged into the Impassable Wilderness — an enchanted forest hidden just beyond Portland, Oregon. Joined by her hapless but loyal classmate Curtis Mehlberg, Prue navigates a world of talking animals, bandits, and powerful figures driven by grief and ambition. As the pair are pulled deeper into a conflict threatening the forest itself, Prue must discover strength she never knew she possessed — and risk everything to protect Wildwood’s fragile future and bring her brother home.
Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee) directs from a screenplay by Chris Butler (Kubo and the Two Strings), adapted from the book series by Colin Meloy, frontman of The Decemberists, with illustrations by Carson Ellis. Knight produces alongside Sam Wilson. The voice cast includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan, Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Awkwafina, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Charlie Day, Maya Erskine, Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Rob Delaney, Jemaine Clement, Marc Evan Jackson, Blythe Danner, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Honorary Academy Award recipient Angela Bassett and Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali.
LAIKA has produced five consecutive Oscar-nominated animated features, from Coraline (2009) through Missing Link (2019). Wildwood marks the studio’s sixth and most ambitious outing to date, with 136 sets and 231 practical puppets reported in production. FilmNation Entertainment handles international distribution.
Wildwood opens in theaters nationwide on October 23, 2026.
