The Resident Evil game series has long filled the survival horror genre as a fan favourite, and building off of Resident Evil 7 which had been dubbed by some as ‘too scary’, there was a huge amount of hype and excitement built for Resident Evil Village – but was it able to live up to the expectations, and was it a good successor for the survival horror genre as a whole?
One aspect that has been credited as the best part of the game had been with the psychological horror aspect of the game, whilst it’s not a big open world title that’ll have you roaming around running into the occasional issue, it is a game that has you trapped in a smaller space throughout the story with no methods of protection, and certain levels rely on illusions and shifting spaces to develop this further, and if this something you may struggle with then it’ll certainly be a tough part of the game to get through. Whilst other sections of the game are a little easier in this space, those few levels and few hours of gameplay are amongst the most standout part of the experience for many players.
There’s also some body horror and gore involved, but nothing really out of the ordinary for a Resident Evil title, and whilst there are options to tone this down a little it has to be noted that if this is something that usually causes a reaction, this is part of the horror within the game with plenty of blood and a little gore, and whilst not overdone it does sometimes appear out of nowhere – if you can handle other horror games, then this certainly shouldn’t be a problem for you.
Finally, the big characters are what makes the game – other genres have a habit of using popular game characters to front their style as this Barbados casino review is a perfect example of those using a big theme and running with it, and we’re likely to see a lot more of the Resident Evil Village characters because of how influential they have seemed – Lady Dimitrescu will be the big one as the figure head o the game, whilst only appearing in the first couple of chapters, the nine foot six vampire lady will be a character that is seen repeatedly for a long period of time moving forward. These characters are also a big part of the reason why the game was able to succeed, as it brought some more depth to the horror genre where characters are usually just disposable and come and go, with the additions in Village being much more durable and a more integral part of the story as a whole.
