Netflix has revealed the first look at BELOW, a suspenseful six-part limited series starring Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down, Penny Dreadful), Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire, Terminator: Dark Fate), and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things). The creature-feature thriller premieres on Netflix on October 8, 2026, and was filmed on location in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.

BELOW follows Calvin Penney (Hartnett), a stubborn but big-hearted fisherman in a small Newfoundland town who has spent decades haunted by his father’s mysterious death. When an unidentified sea creature begins terrorizing the community, Calvin must hold his close-knit town together while keeping his son Wade (Heaton) and the rest of his family safe. His efforts lead him to team up with visiting marine researcher Fonda Howander (Davis), and together they work to confront the creature and unravel the island’s buried secrets before it’s too late.

The series blends local mythology, creature-feature thrills, and family drama across its six 45-minute episodes. Creator Jesse McKeown (After Hours) serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Jessica Rhoades, Chris Hatcher, Josh Hartnett himself, Jamie Childs, Louise Sutton, and Sharon Hall. The ensemble cast also includes Ruby Stokes (Bridgerton) as Mary Penney, Rohan Campbell (The Hardy Boys) as Jay Penney, Willow Kean as Ruth Penney, and Kaleb Horn as Noah.
