When a medical mission in the Amazon jungle goes catastrophically sideways, the team finds itself in a fight for survival against Boiúna — a colossal ancient predator that has just awakened and isn’t interested in sharing her territory. In a jungle where nature holds absolute power, the creature decides who lives and who dies.

Nelson directs from a screenplay by Alan McElroy, based on a story by Tony Giglio and McElroy, with producers Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer. The cast is led by Kiana Madeira (Fear Street trilogy), Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day, Happy Death Day 2U), and Logan Marshall-Green.

Boiúna comes from Brazilian folklore — a massive serpentine water deity said to rule the rivers and waterways of the Amazon. Grounding the monster in Indigenous mythology gives the film a cultural specificity that elevates it beyond a standard creature-feature setup, and with Nelson at the helm — who proved with Wrong Turn that he can handle both genre mechanics and serious atmosphere — Beware Boiúna is shaping up as one of the more distinctive genre offerings of the fall.
