Two British genre features, Black Chariot and Mr. Whispers, are scheduled to screen at the Romford Horror Film Festival, highlighting the event’s continued focus on emerging and independent horror voices.

Written and directed by Lawrie Brewster, Black Chariot is a character-driven thriller influenced by film noir and classic suspense cinema. The film stars Laurence R. Harvey, Megan Tremethick, Novarro Ramon, Dorian Todd, and Sam McMillan, alongside Nick Ford, Richard Pate, Liv Southard, and Peter F. Mahoney. The project also signals a creative pivot for British Horror Studio toward storytelling rooted in traditional suspense techniques while maintaining a contemporary genre identity. The film will screen Sunday, February 22 at 6:50 p.m., followed by a cast and crew Q&A.

Earlier that day, Mr. Whispers will screen at 4:20 p.m., introduced by directors Dorian Todd and Oliver Revie with a post-screening discussion. Set in the mid-1990s, the found footage film follows student investigators exploring an abandoned cinema tied to decades-old child disappearances. Directed by Todd, Revie, and Seumas MacNeil, the feature marks the first horror production from The B-Team Studio, produced with support from British Horror Studio. Together, the films present contrasting approaches to atmosphere and narrative while underscoring the range currently emerging from the UK horror scene.
