Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast in The Exorcist, reuniting with writer-director Mike Flanagan following their recent collaboration on The Life of Chuck. The film is produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment for Universal Pictures. Ejiofor joins previously announced cast members Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, and Diane Lane.

Set for a theatrical release on March 12, 2027, the project will begin production in New York City. The film is described as an original story within The Exorcist universe rather than a continuation of 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. Flanagan will write and direct under his Red Room Pictures banner, with Alexandra Magistro executive producing and David Robinson producing for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Jason Blum and Ryan Turek also serve as producer and executive producer, respectively.

Ejiofor brings an extensive body of work across film, television, and stage, including his Academy Award-nominated performance in 12 Years a Slave. In addition to acting, he has directed features such as The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and Rob Peace. His casting adds another established presence to a production that signals a new creative direction for one of horror cinema’s most recognized titles.
