The effective short film, Lights Out by David F. Sandberg’s is getting the big screen treatment! Whats more, it is being produced by writer director James Wan and will be released n the heels of Wan’s The Conjuring 2 on July 22nd. The short film tells a ridiculously simple story of a creature, lurking in the shadows when a woman turns out the lights one night.
The efficient shocker clocks in at a lean 2:41 minutes. Of course there had to be some work done to flesh out a storyline and build an entire feature out of the kernel of an idea. Director Sandberg is working with writer Eric A. Heisserer (THE THING remake, FINAL DESTINATION 5, HOURS) and we think that this is in some very capable hands.
Synopsis
When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.
Looks like a lot of fun doesn’t it? We see the concept from the original film taken to a whole new level, really examining lights, lighting and the life-force of this nebulous character. We are eager to see this little thriller.
Finally, we need you to follow direction here for a minute. If you have not seen the original film, stop what you are doing, turn out the lights, turn up the sound and watch this.
Gotcha didn’t it? Lights Out arrives in a darkened theater on July 22nd.
