Following the global performance of Despicable Me 4, Illumination has revealed its next feature, Minions & Monsters. The project continues the studio’s long-running animated universe while introducing new characters to a franchise that has generated more than $5.6 billion at the worldwide box office.

Directed by Academy Award nominee Pierre Coffin—who also returns as the voice of the Minions—the film chronicles the characters’ rise in Hollywood, their fall from success, and the chaos that follows when monsters are unleashed on the world. The story centers on the group’s attempt to correct their mistakes and restore order after the mayhem they helped create.

The screenplay is co-written by Coffin and Brian Lynch, with production led by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri alongside Bill Ryan. With more than a decade of cultural presence behind them, the Minions remain among animation’s most recognizable figures, and Minions & Monsters signals another expansion of the studio’s flagship property.
