Horror comedy Muffled will have its world premiere at the Dances With Films festival in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 27, 2026, as part of the festival’s 29th edition running June 18 through 28. Written and directed by Stephen McNamee (There Are No Second Takes in Life… Take 2), the film blends true-crime obsession with internet folklore and creeping supernatural dread.
Muffled follows Nora and Harper, two true-crime enthusiasts who return to their hometown years after their childhood friend Greta vanished without a trace. Armed with cameras and microphones, they set out to make a documentary and finally solve the mystery. Their investigation quickly uncovers unsettling ties to sinister creepypastas and rumors of occult rituals. As they push deeper into the internet’s darkest corners, reality begins to glitch — and the line between investigator and subject starts to blur.
The film stars Katya Martín (Promised Land), Catharine Daddario (If), Sydney Malakeh (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Melanie Brook (Under Wraps, Modern Love), and Erin McCluskey (Evan’s Crime, We Have a Ghost). McNamee directs from his own screenplay; Burns McNamee produces in his feature debut.
