Paramount Pictures has released the official trailer for Passenger, a new supernatural horror film directed by André Øvredal (Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark). The film opens exclusively in theaters on May 22, 2026.

Passenger follows a young couple who witness a gruesome highway accident, only to discover they did not leave the crash scene alone. A demonic entity called the Passenger — relentless and predatory — has attached itself to them, transforming their van life adventure into a waking nightmare it won’t end until it claims them both.

The film stars Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys for Life, The Suicide Squad), Lou Llobell (Foundation), and Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Frozen River). The screenplay was written by Zachary Donohue and T.W. Burgess. Øvredal’s proven talent for dread-soaked atmosphere and creature horror — evident in everything from the Norwegian forests of Trollhunter to the morgue of The Autopsy of Jane Doe — makes Passenger one of the more eagerly anticipated theatrical horror releases of the summer.
Passenger is produced by Walter Hamada and Gary Dauberman, two of the architects behind recent Conjuring Universe films. The film is presented by Paramount Pictures in association with Domain Entertainment as an 18Hz / Coin Operated Production.
Passenger opens in theaters on May 22, 2026.
