Director Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons) brings a bold new vision to one of horror’s most iconic franchises: a reinvention of Resident Evil, hitting IMAX screens one day early on September 17, 2026, and opening everywhere on September 18. Tickets are on sale now.

In this all-new standalone story, Bryan (Austin Abrams) is a medical courier whose routine night collapses into a non-stop, terrifying race for survival. Cregger co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead, John Wick: Chapter 3). The cast includes Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser. The film is produced by Robert Kulzer, Zach Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan, and Asad Qizilbash.

Resident Evil is the first film in the franchise to be part of the Filmed For IMAX program, shot using IMAX-certified digital cameras. Nearly a third of the film — 33 minutes — is presented in IMAX’s exclusive 1.90:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio, offering audiences more picture and greater immersion. Cregger used the expanded frame deliberately, deploying it at key emotional and cinematic moments to amplify the film’s horror and stakes. A dedicated IMAX sound mix rounds out the presentation, engineered for the format’s large-speaker systems.
