Source/Filter Music Collective is excited to announce the West Coast premiere of Sancta Susanna, a thrilling horror opera by Paul Hindemith, set to take place at the historic Lincoln Avenue Church within LA’s Heritage Square Museum. As the Halloween season approaches, this immersive production promises to captivate audiences with its dark and haunting narrative.

Sancta Susanna tells the story of an innocent nun who is plagued by disturbing visions within a secluded convent. As she seeks guidance from her mother superior, she uncovers a sinister secret hidden deep within the convent’s walls. Drawing inspiration from cult horror classics like Dario Argento’s Suspiria and Ken Russell’s The Devils, this production will immerse viewers in a world where the line between reality and nightmare blurs.

The evening will also feature a chilling choral performance by the “evil nun chorus,” followed by a demonic dance party complete with a live DJ spinning macabre hits. Attendees are strongly encouraged to embrace the Halloween spirit by dressing in costumes.

However, to bring this ambitious project to life, Source/Filter Music Collective is seeking to raise $10,000 through a fundraising campaign running from August 24 to October 23, 2024. As a women-led nonprofit dedicated to revolutionizing classical music in Los Angeles, the collective relies on the generous support of the arts and horror communities. The funds raised will cover essential expenses, including venue rental, costumes, tech equipment, and artist fees.

By contributing to this campaign, donors will play a crucial role in ensuring that this production is not only a spectacular opera but also an unforgettable journey into the macabre. Special perks are available to supporters, making them feel like a true part of the Source/Filter family.
