Actor and producer Terry Bird steps into the lead role of Sweeney Todd in the upcoming British horror film Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice, set to debut on digital and DVD in the UK on June 2, 2025, courtesy of Kaleidoscope Film Distribution.
Written and directed by Steven M. Smith (The Ghosts of Borley Rectory), the Victorian-set horror film explores the darker side of 1846 London while reflecting modern societal issues such as the cost of living, family importance, and exploitation. Bird, whose career spans film, television, and theater, takes on the iconic role alongside rising star Alexander Simkin (Gladiator II) as Sergeant Babwitch, and British Independent Film Award-winner Steven Brandon (My Feral Heart) as Tobias.
The film follows Sweeney Todd, a barber haunted by the death of his parents at the hands of a corrupt judge. His chance meeting with Tobias, a young man with Down’s syndrome, leads him to form an alliance with local baker Mrs. Lovett. Together, they plan to exact revenge in a brutal and unconventional way.
Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice is dedicated to the late British actor Darren Kent (Game of Thrones), a close friend of Bird, who inspired the production during a period of limited opportunities in the UK film industry.
Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice will be available for purchase and streaming starting June 2.
