Weapons alums Callie Schuttera and Clayton Farris lead The Exit State, a political horror-thriller from director Gabriela Ledesma that is now streaming on Prime Video and Apple TV following its world premiere at Screamfest in Los Angeles on October 13, 2026.

Set in a near-future United States spiraling toward authoritarian collapse, The Exit State follows a group of Americans fleeing south toward Mexico. They take refuge in what they believe is a safe house in neutral territory, only to discover the shelter is anything but safe. Among the escapees is Zoey, a young journalist carrying sensitive footage of government officials, whose guarded behavior stirs suspicion in the group and in the wealthy brother-and-sister hosts, Vince and Claire.
Ledesma co-founded Poison Pictures with Schuttera, and the pair wrote and produced the film alongside Josh George. The cast includes Schuttera (Weapons, The Rookie), Farris (Weapons, Maxxine), George (Mindhunter), Sharon Lawrence (NYPD Blue), Stakiah Lynn Washington (Primo), Jeremy D. Howard (The Neighborhood), Nikki Dixon (The Curse), and Cindy Nguyen (Shrinking). The 93-minute film is distributed domestically by Chroma, a Narrative Distribution label.

Ledesma says the team wanted to deliver genre pleasures alongside the politics. “We wanted to make a horror movie — one that was tense, fun, and kept you guessing,” she said, citing classic setups where people are trapped together, suspicions shift, and the danger may already be inside the room.
The Exit State is available to stream now on Prime Video and Apple TV.
