Cleopatra Entertainment and MVD Entertainment Group have announced the May 12, 2026 digital release of They Wait in Shadows, a psychological horror film built around grief, guilt, and the monsters that trauma leaves behind.

The film follows estranged sisters Ingrid and Jenny as they move back into their family home following their mother’s death. Ingrid, newly divorced, carries decades of guilt from a childhood incident she has never admitted to; Jenny cycles through unstable relationships and her own unhealed wounds. Once inside the house, both sisters are plagued by traumatic memories and vivid nightmares featuring the monsters they once believed existed only in childhood imagination. When they uncover an old Ouija board they played with as girls, something begins to answer — and the line between repressed memory and present reality starts to collapse.

The film leans into psychological dread rather than cheap shocks, using the sisters’ trauma as the engine of its horror. As the supernatural escalates, Ingrid comes to understand that her guilt may be actively feeding the horrors around them — and the monsters begin making offers she recognizes.

The trailer suggests a film that earns its scares through atmosphere and character rather than spectacle, closer in spirit to Hereditary or Relic than to traditional haunted-house fare.
